Alcorn State, MS—Alcorn State secured a spot in the 2009 SWAC Tournament in today’s win over Alabama State.  Kayla Powers put the Lady Braves on the board just before the half with a 1-0 lead.  The match was a physically intense one that ignited a spark in the Lady Braves and resulted in two goals late in the second half.  Freshman Seymona Peavie scored her first goal of the season at the 71:00 minute mark to push the lead to 2-0.  With ten minutes remaining in the game, Mallory Dayot sealed the team’s fate while scoring the Lady Braves third and final goal.

Coach Chambers comments, “Our team came out and played hard against Alabama State.  The girls were hungry for the victory and showed it on the field.  I am happy that they never gave up.”

The 2009 SWAC Soccer Tournament will be held on the campus of Mississippi Valley from Thursday, November 5, 2009 to Sunday, November 8, 2009.
