Department of Athletics holds 1st Annual Awards Picnic

Timothy Buckley was the recipient of the 2010 E.E. Simmons and Jack Spinks Award. He is from Madison and majoring in physical therapy.

The E. E. Simmons Award is the highest honor award to a student athlete yearly at the Awards Picnic of Champions. The E.E. Simmons Award is given to the student athlete who has made the greatest contribution to the total athletics program, in the judgment of the athletic staff. He/she must be in good standing with the university and must receive at least fifty percent of the secret ballot votes from the department’s head coaching staff. Each sport may nominate a senior to receive the award.

The Jack Spinks Award is awarded yearly to the varsity football player, who in the estimation of the football staff, most nearly exemplifies the following criteria: sportsmanship, conduct of fair play towards opponents, officials and spectator; Alcorn Spirit- the manner in which the player exemplifies the Alcorn Spirit; leadership; and value to the team. Committee members included: LLJuna Weir, chair, Quinten Qualls, Christie Chambers, Tonya Edwards, Terrance Robinson, Kelly Roberts, Moses Dupre’.
