ALCORN STATE, Ms. – The Alcorn State baseball program is looking to get back on the national map in terms of producing superior athletes capable of playing at the next level and five current Braves hope to make a name for themselves this summer in various leagues around the nation.
Sophomore second baseman Corey Wimberly will make his way to Boston, Massachusetts in June to participate as a member of the Torrington Twisters of the New England Collegiate Baseball League. With the Twisters, Wimberly will engage in an eight week 42-game schedule against top-notch competition from various conferences in the NCAA. With the help of Wimberly, Torrington will look to bounce back from last year’s disappointing 19-23 season.
Freshman pitcher Baron K. Short and sophomore pitcher Micah Finch will send their summer in Clarinda, Iowa as members of the Clarinda A’s of the M.I.N.K (Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas) league.
Meanwhile, junior utility player Greg White and pitcher Earl Smith will spend the hottest months of the year in Florida with the Winterhaven Warthogs and the Orlando Shockers, respectively, of the Florida Collegiate Summer League. |
