THIBODAUX, La. – The Lady Braves softball team dropped both doubleheader contests at Nicholls State on Wednesday. Alcorn State fell 9-0 in game one and 12-1 in game two, moving to 3-9 on the season. Nicholls State improves to 7-4.
In the first competition against the Colonels, Kristian Edwards was the only Lady Brave to connect for a hit. Kiri Parker (1-3) took the loss in the circle. The Vacherie, La. native pitched 3.0 innings for nine hits against, nine runs (five earned), no walks, and four strikeouts.
Melise Gossen led Nicholls State at the plate. She had two at-bats with two hits, one run, and three RBIs. Audrey McNeil (3-0) was credited with the win in the circle. She pitched for 3.0 innings with one hit against and five strikeouts.
Alcorn grabbed an early lead in game two. Genise Wells doubled to left center to score Edwards, who reached base on a bunt in the top of the first inning. Two other Lady Braves had hits in the contest—Aysia Pollard and Saniah Dorsey, both ad singles.
Ta'Niyah Fletcher (0-2) was credited with the pitching loss. She pitched 1.2 innings for eight hits against, ten runs (four earned), and one walk. Parker returned to the circle to close the game. She pitched 2.1 innings with five hits against, two earned runs, and one strikeout.
Abby Andersen led the Nicholls State offense. She had a 2-for-2 appearance with two runs. Claire Sisco had two runs and two RBIs.
Molly Yoo (3-2) got the pitching victory. She threw 3.0 innings for two hits against, one run, and two strikeouts.
The Lady Braves return to the field on Friday, March 3, to participate in the Adam Brown Memorial Shamrock Classic. The two-day event is hosted by the University of Central Arkansas, and Alcorn will face Iowa State, Nebraska at Omaha, and the University of South Dakota. The first contest is set for 11:30 a.m. on Friday against Iowa State.
