MONROE, La. – Alcorn State Softball moves to 3-3 on the season after losing in doubleheader action at the University of Louisiana – Monroe Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Braves fell 7-1 in the first contest and lost 8-0 to conclude the day.
In the first game, four players for Alcorn connected for a single hit each, while one Lady Brave recorded an RBI. Kennedy Terry, Kristian Edwards, Hannah Miler, and Kiri Parker connected for hits, as Parker doubled and Edwards tripled. Edwards also scored Alcorn's sole run, and Marsha Hunt was responsible for the RBI.
Parker performed double duty, spending the entire contest in the circle. The senior from Vacherie, La., pitched the whole game for one strikeout, seven runs (six earned), and five walks.
On the Warhawks side of the contest, Madelyn England led ULM with a 2-for-3 appearance with two RBIs. Ashlan Ard also had two RBIs, connecting once on two at-bats.
The Lady Braves could not score a run in the second game but had four landed hits. Kelsey Lockridge, Hunt, Mikeria Howard, and Jamyiyah Cotten singled.
Alexa Veamoi (1-2) recorded her second circle loss of the season. The red-shirt senior from Athens, Ga., pitched five innings for two strikeouts, nine hits against, seven runs (six earned), and one walk. A'Mya Stevens entered the game in relief to pitch 0.2 innings for two hits against and one earned run.
Alcorn will return to action on Friday, Feb. 17, when they travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., to participate in the Golden Eagle Invitational. Hosted by the University of Southern Miss, the Lady Braves will face the USM, the University of Tulsa, and Jacksonville State.
