Braves 10-Hit Game Falls Short in Southern Series Opener

LORMAN, Miss. – Diego Lopez-Molina grabbed a career-high with three hits as Alcorn State fell 16-6 in the opener of its three-game weekend series against Southern on Friday at Bill Foster Field.

As a unit, ASU put up six runs on ten hits with one error. Molina's three hits became his career-high and tied for the most of any Brave in a single game this season. He also added a pair of runs and one RBI. Khalil Smith added two hits, including one home run, for one ribbie, and Jamil Bentancourt and Jermel Ford collected two RBIs.

On the mound, Tyler Feltson (0-4) started the contest to throw for a brief 0.2 innings. He saw one hit against, three earned runs, and four walks. Andrew Meadows entered the first in relief for 4.1 innings, eight hits against, seven runs (six earned), and five strikeouts.

Southern achieved 16 runs on 12 hits with three errors. Jovante Dorris led the effort with a 5-for-6 appearance for five runs and two RBIs. O'Neil Burgos went 1-for-2 for four a game-high four RBIs and came in for one run.

Joseph Battaglia (4-3) earned the win on the mound. He pitched the complete game for 10 hits against, six runs (four earned) with four strikeouts.

The Braves and the Jaguars will return to William 'Rat' McGowan Stadium on Saturday for the second game of the weekend series. The first pitch is set for 3 p.m.
