Braves Ink Four Mid-Year Signees to 2017 Roster

LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University football program added strength, speed and athleticism to its 2017 depth chart after Matthew Davis, Matthew Stewart, Isiah Thomas and Alvin Wilson signed National Letters of Intent.
 
"This is a great group of young men coming to Alcorn and I expect them to contribute right away. I look forward to having them on campus," said head coach Fred McNair. "We addressed specific needs to a few positions and we will continue to key-in on guys who will make a significant impact for our program."
 
Davis, a 6-2, 255-pound defensive end from Batesville, Florida, played the last two seasons at Northwest Mississippi Community College. In high school, he played at national powerhouse South Panola and was named 6A Defensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-Defense by The Clarion-Ledger. He helped the Tigers to a pair of 6A State Championships and a trio of district championships. Davis participated in the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Game and earned the Cotton Roberson Award. His nickname is "SackU" and will have to years of eligibility left at Alcorn.
 
Stewart is a 6-1, 205-pound long snapper from Kossuth, Mississippi. He played the last two years at Itawamba Community College in Fulton, Mississippi. Stewart was the main snapper on special teams in all eight games this past season for ICC and will have two years of eligibility remaining with Alcorn. He lettered in football at Kossuth High School.
 
Thomas is a 5-11, 195-pound defensive back from Madison, Mississippi. He spent the last two seasons playing for East Central Community College in Decatur, Mississippi where he helped the Warriors capture the division title in 2016. Thomas was named to the MACJC All-State Second-Team defense after this past season. He recorded 52 tackles in nine games with an interception and a pair of fumble recoveries. Thomas played high school football for Madison Central and will have two years of eligibility left at Alcorn. He was high school teammates with junior Jayron Harness.
 
Wilson, a 6-2, 230-pound middle linebacker, joins the Braves after spending the last two years at Hinds Community College. He most recently posted a 40-yard dash time of 4.6. Wilson played high school ball at Holmes County Central in his hometown of Lexington, Mississippi. He will have two years of eligibility remaining at Alcorn.
