97 Alcorn State Student-Athletes featured on All-Academic SWAC Team

LORMAN, MISS – Alcorn State had 97 student-athletes honored for academic success, during the 2014-15 academic year.

The Southwestern Athletic Conference All-Academic team is announced annually to give recognition to the young student-athletes who excelled in the classroom. Alcorn and the nine other members All-Academic team of the SWAC totaled 1,150 athletes.

"We are extremely proud of our student-athletes that have excelled academically. We truly appreciate their commitment to excelling in the classroom and their individual sports. Our expectations are to increase the number of honorees on an annual basis," said Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Derek Horne.

Each student had to maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher in order to make the team.

The Men's and Women's tennis team had the highest GPAs at 3.77 and 3.73. Women's soccer, Men's golf, and the softball programs also had team GPAs over 3.00.

Kimberly Connelly (Soccer), VASUDEV VIJAYARAMAN (Men's tennis), IVANA BOBERIC (Women's tennis), AIDA KELIC (Women's tennis), and Daniel Racioppa (Golf) led the Braves with a 4.0 GPA. The Braves had 30 players with GPAs hirgher than 3.5

"We are very proud of our student athletes' performance in the classrooms. We look forward to building on this performance as we continue to produce leaders for years to come," said the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance Jason Cable.
