BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced its 2014 All-SWAC Softball teams and individual award winners on Tuesday prior to its postseason tournament. Junior Alexandria Harris and freshman Jazmin Castillo both were named to the All-SWAC 2nd Team for their performance during the 2014 season.
Harris finished the year with a batting average of .352. She started in every single game this season for the Lady Braves. She led the team and was second in the conference in home runs with a total of 10 (new school single season record). She also recorded 43 hits, 10 doubles, and one triple while leading the team with a total of 46 RBIs and scored 22 runs. She was named SWAC Hitter of the Week for her performance during the week of April 13-19.
Castillo capped off her freshman season with six wins and an ERA of 8.09. She appeared in 34 games, struck out 51 batters, and completed 14 games this season. She was named SWAC Pitcher of the Week for her performance during the week of April 13-19
Texas Southern led all teams with nine selections overall while tying JSU with three selections on first team. JSU followed with four selections while MVSU (3), Alabama State (2), and Alcorn State (2) rounded out the most picks per team. Prairie View A&M, Southern and Grambling State each had a player on the all-conference squads.
The SWAC will host the 2014 Softball Tournament from May 7-10 at Wilson Morgan Park in Decatur, Ala.
