Head Coach
Luther Riley is continuously improving the Alcorn State Men's Basketball team since arriving in 2011. The Braves have won 10 plus games in the last three seasons and finished this past season with 12 wins. The Braves also recorded their first home winning season by totaling nine wins and three losses in the Whitney Complex.
During the non-conference season, the Braves schedule included NCAA Tournament picks, Creighton and Mercer, and some caliber mid-majors schools such as Denver, Western Illinois, St. Mary's and Wright State.
First team All-SWAC select
LeAntwan Luckett led the Braves in scoring averaging 16.0 points per game shooting just over 42 percent fro the field. Luckett scored over 20 points in nine games and scored in double figures 26 times in 31 games. Junior transfer
Octavius Brown was second on the team in scoring averaging 13.5 points per game. He also was the Braves leading rebounder (6.5 rpg).
Freshman
Marquis Vance rose to the occasion last season for the Braves. Coming off the bench for most of the season, Vance averaged 10.0 points per game and 5.1 rebounds per game. He scored in double figures in 15 of the 31 games the Braves played this season.
Looking AheadIn back-to-back seasons the Braves have lost in the first round of the SWAC Tournament with chances of winning the first game but the games somehow slip out of their hands. Next season is expected to be interesting with a stellar recruiting class coming in and with Luckett, Brown, and Vance returning the Braves should make a run for the SWAC regular season and tournament title.
