Braves Lose First Road Test to Mississippi State, 51-7

Lorman, Miss.-Last week the Braves were a hand full for Edward Waters in their season opener but today the tables turned against Mississippi State. The Braves were held to only 163 yards total offense while suffering their first lost of the season to the Bulldogs 51-7 at Davis-Wade Stadium in Starkville, Miss.

The opening drive for the Braves seemed like they were headed in the right direction when quarterback John Gibbs, Jr. connected with wide receiver Tollette George for 14 yards. The next two plays Arnold Walker scrambled for a total of five yards and Gibbs hit George once again for five yards and a first down. But two plays later Gibbs was intercepted by Miss. State's defender, Deontae Skinner.

The Bulldogs capitalized off the turnover on a 11-yard touchdown run by quarterback by Dak Prescott to go ahead 7-0 and that's where the bleeding began.

Offensively, the Braves just couldn't get anything going but managed to find the endzone one time in the fourth quarter when Gibbs hooked up with George once again for a 25-yard touchdown to give the Braves their only score of the game.

Gibbs finished the game completing 11 of 25 passes for 135 yards and one touchdown. George caught four passes for 80 yards and one touchdown. Devon Francois and Damon Watkins each recorded 10 tackles while Jamison Knox racked up six tackles and three pass break-ups.

The Braves return home next Saturday in a SWAC East showdown with the Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State University for their first SWAC contest of the season. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
