Lady Braves Drop Season Opener to Louisiana, 3-0

Lorman, Miss.-The Alcorn State women's volleyball team came out fired up in the first set but was unable to maintain the rest of the way as the visiting Rajun Cajuns from the University of Louisiana defeated the Lady Braves in three sets 3-0: 25-15, 25-11, and 25-13.

In the first match, the Lady Braves kept it close through the first only trailing 9-6 until the Rajun Cajuns jumped out to a 10-6 lead on a kill by Abby Filce. The Lady Braves fought by scoring three straight pointson an attack error and back-to-back kills by Georgia Parsons and Kenya Parker to close the gap to 14-12. UL rallied again again to extend the lead 23-14 and went on to take the first set 25-15.

The Lady Braves couldn't get into a rhythm in the second and third sets allowing the Rajun Cajuns to jump out to huge leads. The Lady Braves were able to score points and rally a few times but wasn't enough to hold down the visiting Rajun Cajuns.

Freshman Sydney Mellom led the Lady Braves with 11 assists, five digs, and 4 kills. Junior Georgia Parsons added five kills and five digs for the Lady Braves.

Up next for the Lady Braves is a trip to Lake Charles, La. for a match against McNeese State. The match is set for 7 p.m.
