Four New Faces to Join Men's Track and Field

Lorman, Miss.-Head Coach Garry Lewis has announced the addition of four new faces to the ASU Men's Track and Field/Cross Country team for the 2013-14 year.  The signees include Jonathan Collins, Christopher Jefferson, Gregory Leonard, and Keyondre Wright.
 
Collins, a triple jumper, hails from Clinton, Miss.  He attended Clinton High School where he was an outstanding student-athlete and a member of the Arrows track and field teams from 2009-13.  He placed third at the Division 3-6A and Region 2-6A meet in 2013.  He has a personal best mark of 45-4.5 in the triple jump.
 
Jefferson is a distance runner who attended Horn Lake High School in Horn Lake, Miss.  He placed second at the Region 1-6A Meet with a time of 4:53 in the one-mile run.  He earned a slot at the 2013 6A State Championships where he placed fourth with a personal best of 4:40 in the one-mile run.
 
Leonard, who was one of the best sprinters in Mississippi this past season, is a native of Hattiesburg, Miss. where he attended Hattiesburg High School.  He posted the best time in Mississippi in the 200m with a time of 21.09 at the Division 5-6A Meet.  He has numerous first place finishes in 2013 which include:  First place in the 100m at the Division 5-6A, Region 3-6A, and the 6A South State Championships and the Powerade Relays.
 
Wright is a sprinter/jumper from Greensboro, Ga.  He attended Greene County High School.  He placed second in the long jump (21-7.5) and third in the 200m (22.18) at the Georgia 2A Sectionals-B Meet.  He has a personal best of 49.81 in the 400m.
 
“We are ecstatic about the new members of the Alcorn State family,” stated Coach Lewis.  This signing class is a very talented group of guys and we can't wait to get started in the fall.
 
The Cross Country Season kicks off on September 6th at home as the Braves and Lady Braves host the Alcorn State Cross Country Classic.
