It was Homecoming 2013 and the Alcorn State Braves football team improved their SWAC and home record defeating the Royals of Warner University 57-0 at Spink-Casem this past Saturday. Listed below are some key factors that took place in the Braves huge victory over Warner:
  • With the win, the Braves are 4-2 on the season and 3-0 at home this season. The Braves also capped off 2-1 record vs. non-conference opponents this season.
  • Head Coach Jay Hopson is now one win away from posting a winning percentage of .500 (8-9) in his career as a head coach after Saturday's homecoming victory.
  • The Braves are now averaging 35.5 points per game which ranks them third in the SWAC after Saturday's win.
  • The Braves accumulated 589 yards of total offense vs. Warner (300 rushing and 289 passing) while the defense held Warner to just 65 yards of total offense.
  • The Braves defeated Warner 57-0 and it was the first time the Braves have shutout their opponent in nine years (Texas Southern 30-0, 2004)
  • Defensive back, CJ Morgan earned the highlight of the game when he intercepted a Warner pass and took it 50 yards for a touchdown.
  • Senior running back Arnold Walker pounded the ball on the ground once again for 111 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns. This was also the second time this season that Walker wasn't stopped behind the line of scrimmage.
  • Sophomore quarterback John Gibbs had another solid game completing 14 of 18 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns. Gibbs passes the 1,000 yard mark in passing yards in the Braves victory on Saturday.
  • Quarterbacks Zerick Rollins, Jr. and T.J. Menning each threw their first career touchdown passes in the win against Warner
  • Junior wide receiver Tollette George is the first wide receiver this season to go over 100 yards receiving in a single game reeling in seven catches for 103 yards.
  • Sophomore wide receiver Jordan Payne caught two touchdown passes for 14 and 15 yards on Saturday giving him five touchdowns on the season.
  • Freshman Michael Hurns posted a career-high six tackles, one tackle for a loss, and a pass break-up.
  • Sophomore Warren Gatewood recorded his first career interception in Saturday's victory over Warner.
