Men's Tennis Kicks Off 2013 Season This Weekend

The Alcorn State men's tennis team opens up their  2013 slate this weekend in Beaumont, Texas.  The quest to defending their title starts with a match against the Lamar Cardinals.

Last season, the Braves completed a successful season going 10-10 overall and a perfect 6-0 record in conference play which led to their second straight SWAC Championship.  In the last year's championship game, the Braves swept Prairie View, 4-0.  To cap off their stellar 2012 season, the Braves earned a spot in the NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament but lost in the first round to Mississippi State.

Head Coach Anthony Dodgen's  team returns five veterans from last season championship team led by Sophomore Garry Amor.  Amor was named SWAC Tournament MVP in 2012 and is expected to improve this season.  Also returning for the Braves tennis team are Ernesto Santillan, Ivan Umnikov, Vitali Vasileuski, and Max Tkachenko. Santillan was a an All-SWAC select in 2012.
