Braves Land 6 in Early Sign Period

Lorman, MS – Alcorn State Head Baseball Coach Barret Rey announced the signing of 6 Braves for the early signing period. The signees will be welcomed to the Reservation next fall with anticipation of the 2014 season.

Coach Barret Rey and the Alcorn State Baseball Staff continue their national recruiting by grabbing 4 ball players from Illinois, 1 from Texas, and 1 from Puerto Rico.

“This is always an exciting time of the year.  Coach Gomez and I have put in a lot of time and effort seeking the best student-athletes for the program.  Our commitment to being athletic and versatile will hopefully keep the future bright for Alcorn State Baseball,” said Coach Rey.

Matt Cole - 1B; 6-2 195; Rich Central HS, Richton Park, IL
“Matt is a strong/athletic hitter.  He will bring some much needed pop to our lineup in 2014,” said Rey.

Elbert Dunnigan - RHP/C; 5-9 160; Simeon Career Academy, Chicago, IL
“Elbert “Elbow” is a hardnosed player who has great pitchability and will also add some depth behind the plate,” said Rey

Robert Fletcher Jr. - INF; 6-0 165; Simeon Career Academy, Chicago, IL
“Fletcher is a very athletic middle infielder with quality actions.  I'm excited to see his continued development as a hitter,” said Rey.

Lorenzo Lynch - OF/3B; 6-2 200; Cedar Hill HS, Dallas, TX
“Lorenzo brings aggression and versatility to the game.  He has a strong pedigree, and his ceiling is extremely high,” said Rey

Marcellus Sneed - LHP; 6-2 220; Morgan Park HS, Chicago, IL
“I expect Marcellus to make an impact on the pitching staff the day he steps on campus.  He has a strong arm with a 3 pitch mix,” said Rey.

Walter Vives - C; 5-11 180; Montverde Academy, Dorado, PR
“Walter is a switch hitting catcher that we expect to be a future leader for our program.  He will help keep our team athletic behind the plate,” said Rey.
