Alcorn State, MS—Alcorn State seniors Steve Easter and Eduardo Gonzalez have been selected by Collegiate Baseball as the SWAC's Projected Pitcher and Player of the Year.
Angel Rosa and
Troy Williams were also named as top players to watch for the upcoming 2012 season.
“I'm excited for these four young men; they were leaders of our SWAC Championship Team last year. They are exceptional students and athletes and they will help us build on the success we achieved this past spring,” stated Head Coach
Barret Rey.
Easter is a native of Westchester, Illinois who is majoring in Business Administration. As the starting pitcher, he completed the 2011 season with a record of 8 wins and 6 losses, 4.82 ERA and struck out 77 batters.
Gonzalez is a native of Lutz, Florida and a Business Administration major. The starting first baseman had a .344 batting average on the 2011 season with four homers, twenty-four doubles and forty-eight RBIs.
Rosa, a Pre-Med scholar is a native of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico who finished the 2011 season with a .287 batting average while hitting four home runs and driving in 40 runs.
Williams is Criminal Justice major and a native of Chicago, Illinois. The right-handed pitcher compiled a record of 7 wins and 6 losses with a 5.01 ERA and struck out 43 batters.
The selection is based on the voting of the coaches.
The Braves compiled a record of 28-27 last season and will open the 2012 season on February 17
th with Air Force in the LSU Tournament.
