ALCORN STATE, MISSISSIPPI – Today Alcorn State University President M. Christopher Brown II announced the appointment of a seven-person Head Men’s Basketball Coach Search Committee.
The committee members are:

Dr. John Igwebuike, ASU Faculty Athletic Representative
Judge Cedric Bush, ASU A-Club
Mr. Jimmy Smith, ASU Registrar
Mr. Tracy Cook, Assistant Superintendant Jefferson County Schools
Ms. Kiara Ruffin, ASU Student Athlete (Women’s Basketball)
Mr. Charles McClelland, Owner McClelland Moving and Storage (Alumni)
“The committee has been charged with conducting an aggressive national search and to present a list of qualified candidates,” says President Brown. “Alcorn is looking for a seasoned coach committed to restoring our program’s reputation on the basketball court as well as ensuring student athlete success in the classroom. We are also very interested in a coach familiar with the SWAC, NCAA rules and regulations and a proven ability to recruit the best talent.”
The announced application deadline has also been abbreviated to Tuesday, March 22, 2011 to allow the new head coach an opportunity to recruit before the April 8th National Signing Day. All applications received by 5:00 PM Tuesday, March 22nd will be reviewed by the search committee and the top three applicants will be notified and move on to the interview phase of the process.
The Search Committee will conduct a series of interview sessions with the top three candidates. Based on interview results, the committee will recommend its preferred head men’s basketball coach to Dr. Brown. The preferred head coach will interview with the president. Following the interview with the preferred candidate, the president will make an offer and if the offer is accepted, the process will close. If the offer is not accepted the public will be alerted on the next steps to be taken.
The president will then announce his appointment of the new head men’s basketball coach and a meet-and-greet will be held for alumni, faculty, staff and students along with the media and general public.
